Pros: simple program, easy to use, nice idea, you can ''burn'' the news on CD

When I found the program I said ‘’Wow – finally I will be in touch in a few moments only!’’. Morning reading of the news sometimes takes you long time. With NewsAloud it seems to be easier...

By bluebat168 on Fri, 2008-12-12 07:24
Pros: Extremely easy to use. Practical for sight-challenged individuals.

Still Not Ready For Primetime

By oldzkool on Sun, 2007-11-25 18:33
Pros: Accurate conversion of text, simple interface, and outputs to WAV or MP3.
Cons: Awful voices, dated design, and expensive add-ons.
In the last 10 years, we've seen some amazing advancements in computing. Back then I was running a system with a 266MHz processor, 64MB RAM, and a 8MB video card. I'm now running a notebook with a...

I Hear You Loud And Clear

By CaliforniaGirl on Wed, 2006-01-25 10:23
Pros: To its merit TextAloud does in fact support both SAPI standards fairly well. The user can choose either of the two standards or specify he or she wants voices from both. If both are selected and there are some overlapping voices, SAPi 4 takes precedence, even though some features of Textaloud require a SAPI 5 compatible engine. The speech synthesizers and their voices are arranged in a neat two-level tree structure hich let's you preview or disable voices on a per synth basis.
Cons: When you select the WMA option, a message box pops up leading you to the necessary WMA download. While this is nice, the means of providing the information go against common usability principles. A keyboard user usually cursors through the format list and when arriving at WMA, the focus is suddenly taken away from the list, which prevents you from cursoring over the WMA choice should there be other formats after it.
Reading the text in TextAloud is a breeze. There's a dedicated button for it and a choice for the same thing in the Speech menu. The only thing you need to provide is the folder in which the audio...

Just Hear Me Out

By BushSucks on Tue, 2006-01-24 10:07
Pros: SAPI5 support is an essential feature many similar programs lack. Also, it's very inexpensive.
Cons: You can't easily skip forward or go back
Reading text files out loud and changing voices is very easy with TextAloud. The user interface has a familiar text box for editing and selecting text, from now on commonly referred to as the text...
