Review:

Typing Master Express is a touch tyeing program suitable for all ages and people with varied skill levels. It consists of just about 70 exercises in total, these exercises progress gradually, gaining in difficulty as the user acquires new skills. The tutor starts out by teaching the "ASDF" keys, progresses to the "JKL:" keys and finally completes other keys at the same time, for example; Z and X or G and H.

Although this is a common way of teaching in these sorts of programs, it can be very effective, and in this case - very well implemented. The program takes a "one step at a time" approach, introducing the user to new techniques one baby step at a time. These techniques are reinforced well by explaining the exact finger placement and tricks you can use to achieve maximum speed and accuracy.

I started using this program with absolutely no real typing skill, averaging around 10 words a minute with horrid accuracy. After progressing towards the end of the program, I noticed my WPM (Words Per Minute) had increased dramatically to 40 WPM! As well as that, my accuracy had improved by an order of magnitude to about 97% - 98%.

Typing Master Express's quip is “As a result you will type up to 4 times faster without errors and save dozens of valuable working hours every year.” My performance improvement is a clear indication that this claim is in fact truthful.

One thing that users will find annoying is the paragraph drills. Thise can become repetitive and may become skip-worthy. Perhaps the developers should provide some incentive to complete these paragraph drills to make them more interesting.

Typing Master Express consists of a well put together interface that is simple but some may find it ugly. Also one of the best aspects of this application is that it runs on all major operating systems, like Linux and Mac OSX. This is a plus because it is always nice to know that some developers support operating systems outside Windows.

Conclusion:

This program is a fantastic educational tutor for any skill level, it combines a simple interface with an intuitive objective. Highly recommended, especially for families.
