Review:

Initially, the graphical interface is impressive in it’s simplicity. Upon running the program, users are prompted to select a colour scheme from a fair selection which are further customizable. The main screen allows access to all editing functions ranging from the usual cut and paste to noise removal and playback operations. Despite the pop-up descriptions included on each function the collapsed toolbars lack any descriptions leaving a user to randomly select toolbars until the desired editing features are found. While basic recording options are easily mastered, the absence of latency configuration and a limited buffer size maximum of 5 (0.5 seconds) leave integrated sound cards insufficient and a quality microphone nearly a requirement. Upgraded systems will provide good sound quality, though recording while running other programs is not advisable on most systems. Recording features include starting at a specified time, for a set duration, saving automatically to separate files, or recording only whenever sound is present and pausing otherwise.

Even on limited systems the editing capabilities still offer this program as a useful resource. Files may be opened, edited, and saved without distortion. The bookmark feature is particularly useful with the ability to preview the selected audio in the bookmark window and display full text comments under the waveform itself. On selected audio a small tag is available offering a list of frequently used previewing options. Making selections may be done with the mouse or by entering numeric time values. While nearly all functions include brief instructions, when any of these features become overwhelming the help files provided offer concise descriptions and clear instructions. Those who learn easily by reading will unlikely need the on-line customer support available. The summarized tutorial provided at installation is well worth a read to get novices off the ground and professionals quickly operating the program.

Conclusion:

This quirky program proves useful in offering practical audio tools with user customization options, especially for the inexpensive price tag. Older and resource limited computer systems may not be able to take advantage of all the features, however it does offer some tricks users have been looking for.
