Review:

If you are looking for a DVD copying software and don’t have one yet, DVDFab Gold or DVDFab Platinum is as good as any out there. In fact, there are some hyped up titles that cost 60-80 bucks, twice as DVDFab, and have exactly the same features.

DVDFab has three good things about it. First, it’s very simple, point and click type software. You really don’t have to know anything about DVDs. Second, DVDFab Gold removes CSS protection, so you can copy DVDs freely. Third, you can specify output format to NTSC (the Americas) or PAL (Europe).

This is very handy because sometimes when you buy DVDs from a website, you might think that the seller is in the United States, but then you get a European DVD that your DVD player does not want to play what do you do? This happens to me regularly when I shop at Amazon.Co.Uk.
As far as features go, DVDFab is right in the middle.

For instance, it copies episodic DVDs but does not copy games. Or it gives you an option to decide whether to keep or omit the extras, but there are no compression options. All copies made are 1:1. Unfortunately, there are no converters built-in, so if you want to convert DVDs to AVI or DivX, you have to get third-party software. I am not sure if this is good or bad, since DVD copiers that can do that tend to cost around eighty bucks.

Another non-significant thingy worth noting is the fact that DVDFab works with DVD(+/-)R(W), but not CD-R(W), which is natural, since you can’t put a full DVD onto a CD, without converting it to something else first.

The speed is pretty standard – about one hour for a full 1.5-2 hr. DVD. The quality is excellent, which is something to be expected, since all copies are 1:1 (exact mirror image, so to speak).

Conclusion:

DVDFab is a solid middle of the road DVD copier. If you’ve tried something else and really liked it, good for you. If you are undecided and don’t know what to get – don’t get hyped up into buying expensive apps – DVDFab Gold will do the same job for half the price.
