Review:

With Starbucks sky rocketing in business in the last five years, it is no wonder why a game like Coffee Tycoon looks appealing to the public. The main goal of Coffee Tycoon is to pick and name a coffee shop, choose the percentile of baristas to managers to executives, and watch your coffee company go through the ups and downs of the virtual business world. The more money you make with your coffee shop, the more features will be added to your shop. Such features include new drinks, more shops, more advertisement, special discounts, and better equipment.

Personally, I found the game a bit demeaning of my intelligence. While the game was very nicely structured, it was too structured. By this, I mean, the game did everything for you. All you had to do was push two different buttons: “Start Day” and “End Day”. This game would be a lot better if players had more to do during the game. I do admit that watching my coffee shop, Mean Bean, go through each day was slightly entertaining. However, it was not entertaining enough for me to spend more than fifteen minutes playing.

Coffee Tycoon is not a game for big time gamers. It might, on the other hand, be a great game for children and pre-teen frappuccino addicts. Since they are younger, they are more likely to be drawn in by the bright, fun graphics and simplicity of the game. They might even learn a thing or two about business and money.

Conclusion:

Overall, this game is very nicely designed. Although it looks nice, the simplicity of this game drains out the fun. While I would not play it ever again, I would surely buy it for a child as a gift.
