Review:

Big Kahuna Reef is one of those games in which you have to line up three or more items for them to disappear. And if it is not a classic bubble game, the setting is what decides most of game's success. In Big Kahuna Reef you are under the tropical sea.

In my opinion the gameplay is balanced. As puzzle elements you get not only variety of sea themed items to line(like clams, shrimps, pearls, etc) but a level goal- destroy every background crate on which an item may move by lining up three or more elements of the same kind on top of it. That may be quick and easy at first, but after a couple of levels the simple, square level will change form to more complicated ones, making lining harder. And when new challenge, a chained item that will not move until you break the chain by lining, appears, things will quickly get hard. You will often find yourself racing against time and that is quite rare for such puzzles. And that makes the game really good.

To compensate for dynamic levels the game offers you an aquarium between levels, in which you can look at tropical fish swimming. As you beat levels, more fish becomes available. That is a very nice touch to the game. It really adds the atmosphere and feeling that you are under the warm sea. You also get a motivation to continue. Music is not loud or complicated and that somehow eases the tension of a time limit. Especially near the end.

Option I find really nice is relaxing gameplay. You may start a game without a time limit and just have a good time.

Do not be fooled when game sites ask you to buy it. You can get the game for free on Amazon.com.

Conclusion:

A very nice undersea puzzle with tense or relaxed gameplay. A good entertainment for all ages.
