Pros:
- The theme is nice enough, and makes for an intresting idea. It will appeal to both war and train fans. - The game is challenging and is not easy to complete. You will find yourself having to attempt missions multiple times. - The game is a good way to waste an hour or two when you have those boredom blues. - Finishing the missions and collecting the trains in the shed proves to be fufilling.
Cons:
- I found the helicopter mechanic buggy and hard to use. - Not for people with a short temper or not a lot of time.
Review:

Rail of War is a rather decent shooting action game by Youda Games. In the game, a war is underway, and it is up to you, an engineer on the railroad to help transport and protect the goods vital to the war effort. Through the course of the rather difficult game, you will gain access to stronger, faster, or more powerful engines to help you in your missions. These new trains will prove vital to your successes later in the game.

Even within the first mission of the game, it proves to be challenging. The game comes with a tutorial that covers the basics, however, there is not much to learn other than how to control the train and to shoot.

The enemy troops in the game vastly outnumber your train, so it is essential that you use your guns and pick-ups to your advantage. Of course, even the best engineer will eventually have his train damaged. Scattered across the game maps are repair yards where you may spend your hard-earned cash to repair and refuel your train. That is right! Just like a car, if your train runs out of fuel, it is game over, mister.

The artwork in the game is standard for a medium budget game. The art does not feature anything that really struck anything in me as pretty or eye-catching. The sound department is also the same, just filled in with run of the mill sound effects that really don't stick out.

The levels in the game are varied and offer enough of a change every once in a while. The backdrop for the missions often changes from lush forests and jungles, open plains, artic ice, and even the foreboding desert. A few of the missions in the game even take place at night, only leaving dim outlines of your enemies around your train to shoot at.

The game play gets a bit frustrating at times, as bulldozers will attempt to push you from the tracks, planes will scrape you with bullets, and vehicles will block the road all too often. However, there is one major problem I cannot ignore. When dropping carriages onto your train using the helicopter, I often find it near impossible to do. Be it my shabby aiming skills or otherwise.

I am not a fan of Youda's games. I find them rather boring and generic game-site fare. However, this is one exception I am willing to make.

Conclusion:

If you like the theme of war or trains and have nothing to do for a bit, go ahead and try out Rail of War. It should not dissapoint you too much.
