Review:

East-Tec Eraser 2007 is a good privacy cleaner and data eraser, but on the first run, I found some things I don't like. First, from all the products I tested, this one is the slowest in its category. The good thing is that, unlikely the others, it scans and cleans many places that usually contain sensitive data like the internet history, web pages cookies, chat room conversations, deleted e-mail messages and temporary files. Also, the files to be deleted are wiped, overwritten with a data stream in order to permanently destroy thecontained data beyond recovery.

The interface: The interface is intuitive, containing all the needed information in order to use the program at its full power from the first run. The files are listed not only by name, but the list also contains the type of the file, the size and the full path, making it easy to skip the files that were added accidentally. Also, you can drag-and-drop files to the main window, without having to browse for files or folder, thus sparing time.

Highlights: The features are astonishing, it includes a scheduler, allowing you to automate scans. Also, East-Tec Eraser also acts as a file wiper and can use various algorithms (12 out-of the box choises and 1 custom) for securely erasing sensitive files. A few of the supported algorithms are Russian GOST P50739-95, German VSItR, U.S. NAVSO P-5239-26, B. Schneier's algorithm and others. Every level of functionality comes with a very detailed security summary, explaining how many wiping-passes each option will do.

System integration: East-Tec Eraser supports a huge list of applications and the cleaning is very through, leaving no sensitive data traces behind. Additionally, the program integrates perfectly with the Windows(R) Shell, so you can just right-click a file or a folder and choose the desired action.

Overall, this is one of the best utilities in its category, but as nothing is perfect, it has its glitches.

Conclusion:

This utility is a lifesaver for the ones who really want to get rid of sensitive information from their PC, including but not limited to tracks from e-mail clients, credit card information, or personal files. The possbilities are endless.
