Review:

Governor of Poker (GOP) is a poker game against computer opponents. It takes place in the Wild West and has a nice twist; not only do you play poker but you have something to do with your money once you win it.
When you first start the game you have a choice to play “quick poker,” just a game for fun, or to start your real game by clicking play. You start out in a small town called San Saba; your reputation, cash, current location, and amount of days played is always at the bottom of the screen. At the top of the screen there is your menu, in which you can see a map of Texas, your rewards, your options, your statistics and “next day” and quit buttons.
There are several ways to make money in GOP. The most effective is, of course, playing poker. To begin the poker game, look for a cowboy with a spinning circle above his head and talk to him. The money you win from poker you can use to buy houses. For each house you also earn rent each day. The goal is to eventually buy all the houses in the town. If your money runs low, then you either sell houses (if you have any) or, if you ran out of money, you will need to start a new game.
Now on to the important part: game-play. Most of the poker tournaments begin with 8 players and a dealer. Within the first 2-3 minutes usually it thins down to around 4 players. A handy feature in the poker tournaments is the “Fold and Skip” option. Choosing this option means you don’t have to wait for all of the computer players to slowly take their turns to complete the hand. Instead, you can just fold and go almost immediately to the next round. The computer opponents, while not impossible to beat, are good enough to make it difficult to win.
This game is one of my personal favorites. I find that playing towards a goal keeps it interesting. I have not experienced a single glitch or crash; that in itself is nice. It is a fun game and I definitely recommend it for novice and experienced poker players alike.
