Platypus Review
Fun, nostalgic side-scroller
You can buy it at RegNow for that price.
Fun, cool looking
Really nothing new, big download
Platypus doesn't really do anything different than the classic side-scrolling shooters, but one could be fooled.
Foregoing the traditional 8-bit graphics, Platypus is built via claymation, resulting in a very cool look that makes playing it an entrancing experience.
The game is a bit short on story but is atmospheric nonetheless. There are several throwbacks to gaming classics like Contra. The sound effects are arcadey and nice.
Platypus is repetitive but it's cool still. The upgrade catalog isn't quite as expansive as those of the games it's ripping off, but are still effective. The controls are natural and the game can played instantly.
The art style leads to quite a hefty download, but the game runs fine with little visible slowdown.
If you're looking for a fast-paced, pick-up-and-play shooter to fill time in between meetings, Platypus is worth a look.
