Review:

Even text based rpgs can hold a person's interest because of the designers effort to be descriptive in place of good graphics. Age of Castles is the lethargic second cousin of Warcraft 3. Warcraft at least moves and changes scenery. Age of Castle's repetitive 2d graphics doesn't make for much of an in depth game. Even with some text and stationary scenery it still doesn't paint a much of a vivid picture. A game doesn't always need to have good graphics to be playable, just a good storyline. In all fairness I played for a little over an hour to see if the pace picked up at all. One hour and fifteen minutes later I found myself desperately tapping the escape key.

If the game had more of a detailed storyline with some history behind some main and minor characters (which falls in the lack of detail category) it would of been moderately interesting at least.

The game's concept is pretty simple, you are given four different classes to control: Merchants, Clerics, Soldiers, and Builders
Build, find something, somebody may die, end of day. Occasionally you move your castle with magic, which I thought was kind of neat. But that one thing really isn't enough to save this game.

In light of that, the only thing I can say that I liked was the music. It's rare now at days to find good ambient music in a game.

Normally I'm all for finding some underrated rpg with great presentation since my computer runs like it was the first one ever built. This just kind of made me lose a little faith that it's even possible.

Conclusion:

I wouldn't recommend playing this game to anyone unless a froze screen, bland storyline, and a few hours to waste is your idea of an awesome time.
