Review:

It's pretty hard to mess up a puzzle game--let's face it, it isn't some technological feat. What is hard is to make a puzzle game that is addictive, fun, and, educational. FreshGames accomplishes that with their new game, 'Word Mojo Gold.'

The game is combination of key elements from many other word games such as Scrabble, Crossword puzzles, Boggle, etc. In Timed Mode, the player is given three minutes to meet a point quota (a number that steadily increases as the game progresses) using a total of 42 (Easy mode) to 54 (Hard Mode)randomly generated letters (which appear in six sets of seven to nine letters.)

In addition to that, the player has to think strategically, placing useful letters on one of the six (Easy mode) to eight (Hard mode) colored boxes. Any letter placed on a colored square gets put into the Bonus Box, a group of letters that will be used to score some extra points at the end of the round. (Sort of like a Panic Round.)

The hard part of the game is planning your moves. You can't just place words anywhere on the board--starting from your first word, the player is required to use that word to construct another (either by intersecting it or adding letters to it).

Many times you end up with a small area of three or four letter words that offer no possibilities for the big pointers; aggravating, but, with practice, you can learn to avoid it. Unlike most games of this type, Word Mojo Gold offers the wonderful option of saving your game; something that other puzzle games should try to incorporate.

As an added plus, FreshGames included a Challenge Feature, where you are given unlimited time--the point being to rack up as many points as humanly possible.

The Music and Sound aren't the byproduct of a recording session with the Philharmonic. They are extremely 'game-like,' but FreshGames was considerate enough to allow players to turn both off. This enables users to listen to other music while playing.

A nice feature of this game is that it isn't full screen, which allows you to play it while doing other things. Also, it automatically pauses when you minimize the window.

Conclusion:

This game will satisfy pretty much everyone. Regardless of your vocabulary, you will still be able to enjoy it. Granted, a wide vocabulary is an asset, but it isn't required. Whether you're still learning the language or hold a PhD in English, you'll like this.
