Review:

ViewletCam succeeds in combining a number of other programs into one all around smooth product: or so it's hyped. I'm glad to say that in this case it seems to live up to expectations.

ViewletCam is intended for "business professionals" in order to facilitate uploading relatively complex product presentations onto the internet, cds, etc; and is supposed to be able to do this without any expensive training whatsoever: well, that's a fair description.

Set up is snappy enough, you simply start a new project, name it and then a recording box pops up asking what you'd like to record. You have the option of a specific window, a choosen area anywhere on the screen and/or the entire thing. There are a couple of secondary options to choose from, namely whether to record sound and how many fps, which maxes out at a lackluster 10 (so no in game or fast paced videos, which I'll get to later).

Then you just press go and do whatever it is you want to record: to an extent. The recorder works well with basic online activities and with basic programs, essentially ones that don't utilize the graphics card, however anything more complex, for example in-game footage, causes the whole thing to go haywire and record nothing. This might not be a problem if the video recording wasn't the main purpose of the software; but seeing as it is, it could be much better.

You then have the option of overlaying sound cues, external images or text onto the recorded image, all of which works well, especially if you're making a powerpoint-esque presentation. And to the softwares credit, with a little practice, and utilizing the in depth online help made available, I'm sure even my mother could make a pretty presentation, which is after all the idea.

Conclusion:

ViewletCam's a functionally sound program. For someone who's job is to make tons of pretty, straightforward presentations, this one will work. For anything more intense - gamers, graphics designers - keep looking.
