Review:

In my early years, I enjoyed nothing more than playing a game of Tetris on my Gameboy.
For hours I would sit on the couch in the living room stacking blocks of all shapes while listening to the funky tunes coming out of the speakers.
Yep, Tetris was the bomb.
The concept of BrickShooter is very original, but does it work out well enough to become today's new Tetris?

BrickShooter is nothing more than a simple puzzle game in which you score points by lining up squares.
You do this by clicking on a 'brick' located on the edge of the screen, and sending them to the center where they will collide with their fellow bricks, and come to a stop.
In case you manage to line up 3 squares (or more) of the same color, the bricks will disappear and your points will increase.
Even though this seems really easy at first, you'll soon notice it's a lot harder than you might expect.

Gameplay-wise, this game is a great pastime, but unfortunately, the visuals and audio of this game are of such a low level that it kills the fun of playing.

The graphics are really simple, and there are no nice visual effects whatsoever, which is a must for 2D games nowadays. (This is 2009, after all.)
Luckily, you can customize the look of the game, which is a very big plus.
Some of these 'skins' really make the game... less ugly. (Still far from pretty, though.)

I found myself turning off the music after 5 minutes in, I couldn't stand it.
All the music files are in .mid format, which is a bad choice for background music, .MP3's or .OGG's are the standard for PC games.
Besides the low quality, the tunes are also very repetitive and monotonous.
Bad.

Conclusion:

All in all, BrickShooter is a fairly good puzzle-game.
It's original and fun, it works well, and it's quite challenging, but the biggest flaw here is the lack of good audio and visual effects. Worth the 20 bucks?
In my opinion, no, but the freeware version is fun to play for an hour or three. (Maybe longer, depends on how much you like puzzling.)
