Review:

Anybody looking at Editplus has probably used UltraEdit which is probably the most popular text editor. However, there have been recent upgrades to UltraEdit which has made it much slower and its Unicode support is very buggy, thus why I took Editplus for a spin.

It’s safe to say that this is the one of the best text editor that I have used. The ability to create and import new syntax highlighting schemes into EditPlus makes it a must-have tool for anyone who writes programs into obscure languages. For instance, I have used EditPlus for x86 assembly, MIPS, Prolog, SQL and LISP development.

Many of these programming languages have compilers which do not have built-in editors, requiring one to use an external editor. The problem, as many developers know, is that without syntax highlighting, it is much easier to make many mistakes and not notice them right away.

I suggest any developers out there that are looking for a text-editing solution to download this program then go to their website, click "User Files" and download whichever syntax files you need. Talk about making your life easier.

Finally don't be fooled by its misleading reputation of being only a text-based HTML editor. It also contains some nice HTML-aware features; you can just as easily edit Perl or xml files if you want.

Conclusion:

Well worth the money. It is fast and light but has so much power.
