Review:

I think it’s safe to say that 90 of PC users have no idea what registry really is. The Windows registry is really just a data file. This file contains plain text entries which the operating system and all of your installed programs and drivers read to find out how they should act, how they should interact with each other and how they should interact with you, your network, peripherals, the Internet and so on. It's an incredibly detailed pile of data, which if tampered with in the wrong way can render your computer useless (or at least impossible to boot).

Now that I explained what registry is, and you still have only a faint clue, let’s get to RegistryMechanic developed by PCTools and why it’s so nifty. This tool basically takes care of all you registry needs, and all you have to do is just press “Next”.

After launching the program, Registry Mechanic displays a list of checkboxes on the left hand side which corresponded to various Registry entries present on your PC. On the right of the Window, options were available to "Scan, Backup, and [Configure]".

By default, all the checkboxes on the left of the screen are pre-checked, so that Registry Mechanic will scan all areas of the computer for errors. After my first scan, the program showed almost 2000 errors, which is probably normal for a PC that over a year old, especially since I install several files each week.

Upon completion of the scanning process, RegistryMechanic launches a new window and subdivids all the errors it finds into a number of categories. This lets you "zero in" on specific Registry problems. Registry Mechanic then repairs the items you chose. For that all you have to do is to click the Repair button.

Registry Mechanic makes it easy for anyone, especially newbies to eliminate potential pitfalls which can lead to system instability and performance degradation. I especially like the fact that Registry Mechanic allows the user to backup and restore a previously healthy registry, which is very important when dealing with viruses and spyware you just seem to be unable to delete.

Conclusion:

Registry Mechanic is an incredibly easy to use program, requiring very little interaction to get the job done. For this reason, I would highly recommend Registry Mechanic for anyone wishing to maintain a clean Registry.
