Pros:
The only program that I know of that compresses mp3 files not counting expensive music editors.
Cons:
Unfortunately, there is a limit as to how much you can compress your mp3 file, before the quality becomes too trashy.
Review:

Diet MP3 essentially is a compression utility for your mp3 files. ZIP for your music, if you prefer to put it another way. If you have an older mp3 player with 1 GB or less, you definitely should try DietMP3, because it will let you squeeze about 30-50% more songs inside your mp3 player or a handheld.

Here is one thing about DietMP3 that impressed me from the beginning – there is no technogeek bitrate talk. First, you select a type of device you’ll use to listen to your music. The available options are MP3 Potable Player, Palm PDA, Pocket PC, Mobile Phone, Other MP3 Device. Then, you select output quality – CD Quality, Telephone Quality and Tape Quality. That’s it – you pick exactly what you want and BAM – you get it. Converting tunes is fast, although if you want to compress an entire album, you might want to go get some coffee. And a donut.

DietMP3’s interface is rather simple and a bit too colorfully amateurish for my taste, looks like a college kid who took a computer design course created it. However, this program does come with a detailed help file, something that most shareware authors fail to include. Not that you really need to read it in order to know how to use the program, but it’s nice that it’s there.

There are some funny things about DietMP3 too. For example, the About page has a photo of the author, his name is Dong Jia, and he graduated from Department of Physics, Nankai University, in 1995. Ummm..? So? Why do I need to know that? And why not include some information about your dog or your mother-in-law favorite recipe?

Conclusion:

Anyhow, the software is great, it really noticeably reduced mp3 file size and is quite inexpensive; at less then 15 buck, making it a cheaper investment than having to buy a new flash card.
