Review:

Downloading Infix PDF Editor gives users a free trial of any version of the program. It was a fast download, but installation was a pain. The program crashed twice before finally allowing me to complete it.

The program gives the user a choice of three set up options. Professional Mode gives users advanced editing features, such as translation and find and replace. Standard Mode allows users to perform simple edits, and Form-Filling Mode lets operators simply fill in PDF forms.

The interface is simple and uncluttered. The program allows users to work on a PDF as if it was a word processing document. Anyone with basic computer software knowledge should be able to start using the program immediately. Editing text was surprisingly easy. Users have the options of changing fonts and font sizes. I found adding pictures to the PDF file I was working on was actually easier than inserting and arranging them into Microsoft Word.

Advanced features, such as Find and Replace, worked smoothly. Users have the option of adding “Sticky Notes” where they can make notes to refer to as they work on their project. Other features include spell check and security options that allow users to require a password to access the file.
Infix PDF Editor provides helpful online tutorials with video demonstrations of how to use the program. Additionally, a Quick Start Guide under the Help menu gives users a place to search for a quick answer. What I like about this guide is that it is written in English, not “geek”, so anyone can easily find the answer to their questions and understand the instructions they need to follow. Those who cannot find the answers they need through these sources can access the support page of the Infix website, www.pdfediting.com or email questions to [email protected].
In order to save files edited on the trial version, operators must select one of three options. They can have a watermark added, which saves their changes and can be removed later with purchase of the software. Some programs have an obtrusive watermark that covers the working area of the page. PDF Editor’s watermark appears in the lower, right corner of the page. It is basically a commercial for the program, appearing as the Infix logo informing the reader that the program was used to edit the PDF and the website address. They may also choose the “Pay and Save” option, where they purchase “saves”. This allows the user to save three PDF’s without watermarks for $30. Finally, they may choose to buy a license to have a full function, Infix Standard for $99 and Infix Professional for $159.

Conclusion:

This program gets high points for ease of use and flexibility, but similar programs can be found that cost less.
