Classic Game Goes Clay

By mangosalad on Tue, 2008-02-12 05:55
Pros: The simple controls, easy gameplay, and original graphics.
Cons: Repetitive situations, lack of plot, and annoying music.
The first thing that struck me was the game's name. Platypus. Would this action game involve the actual animal? Would I be playing as him or her? The name alone left me wanting to know what this game...

Pros: Superb claymation graphics; Addictive gameplay; High replay value
Cons: Gameplay brings nothing new to the table; Music and sound are both very bland and get tiresome after a while
Platypus is one of the few modern games I've ever played that plays like an old side-scrolling shooter. But, though the gameplay may be rather primitive, don't be mistaken; Platypus is still a...

Gumby gets a spaceship?

By commonbass37 on Sun, 2007-06-03 20:14
Pros: Two-player mode, Broad range of difficulty, easy controls
Cons: Controls unsensitive, Cheesy claymation graphics
How did this game get a name like platypus? Graphically, this game takes a trip 10 years back in time. Take any side-scrolling, airplane/spaceship shooting game, exchange the ever-developing graphics...

Platypus - Innovative Playdoh Fun

By Bartleby Chevenix on Fri, 2007-05-18 18:32
Pros: Brilliant visuals, decent soundtrack, solid gameplay
Cons: Soundtrack could be better, over sensitive controls
If you look up Platypus on the Internet it comes up with this term: A semiaquatic egg-laying mammal of Australia and Tasmania, having a broad flat tail, webbed feet, and a snout resembling a duck's...

Not A Lame Duck At All

By AlacGane on Thu, 2007-05-17 20:20
Pros: Crazy artwork, fitting music, and an okay challenge. No annoying HUD.
Cons: Character development would be nice, but it's not necessary. Didn't expect the background to have hazards, but it's a good touch.
When I first saw the screenshots for this game, I thought, "Wow, all claymation? This should be interesting." It wasn't until I played it that I began to truly appreciate how much work went into it....

Artistic, yet boring shooter.

By saveknut on Wed, 2007-03-28 15:40
Pros: Easy to play, Clay graphics are cool and innovative, a nice variety of powerups, Provides some eye-candy.
Cons: Irritating Music, VERY slow game, it becomes boring after an hour of playing, i highly doubt you will play this more than a couple of days, Gameplay is somewhat tedious and not original.
Platypus is pretty much like any other Side scrolling shooters, and to be honest, not even the artistic graphics make it stand out from other side scrolling shooters. Music seemed nice to me, but...

By MJGV on Sun, 2007-03-04 22:57
Pros: Brilliant graphics, simple, addictive gameplay, lots of variety, two player mode.
Cons: Minor technical issues, similar gameplay is available for free.
Even with the photorealistic computer games published today, it's not hard to appreciate the beautiful clay-driven visuals that dominate your monitor as you pilot a little yellow ship past scenic...

Platypus is the kind of game that seems all new and fun for about 10 minutes, and then the "fun" wears down as you realize it's really just the same old shoot 'em up. To be honest there are a few...
